The Minority Report Blog Postings
The film, the Minority Report, is a film set in Washington D.C in 2054. A new system of stopping crime before it occurs, called pre-crime, reduced crime by 90%. The main conflict arises when John Anderson, the manager of this project, is predicted to murder someone by the pre-cogs, the 3 people who have an ability to sense crimes.Blog Posting #1
Pre-cogs are used in the film to sense future crimes. They are vital parts of the Pre-crime department and they are not treated well. They live in a pool, are fed through tubes, and spend their whole life predicting murders. At one point in the movie someone even says "It's better if you don't think of them as humans." The pre-cogs are kept in a pool that is located in a dark large room. They are isolated from society and only one man has clearance to be in the room with them. It is unethical to treat the pre-cogs this way because they are not treated as humans. They are not even able to handle their own bodily functions. They live a sad life where they cannot brush their own teeth, eat their own food, or survive on their own. Humans would never be able to live like the pre-cogs do because of a combination of things such as these stress of seeing murders 24/7 or not being able to function on your own.

Pre-Crime as a totally protective government
1. Totally protective government-a government that will do anything to keep the citizens safe. In the Minority Report's case privacy was invaded to stop crimes from occurring.
2. There are two sides about if our government should be a totally protective one. On one hand, when a government knows what you are doing at all times and knows everything about you it is crossing a line and you no longer have any privacy. The other side of this is that if you are not doing anything bad then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
3. If this totally protective government had been in place, many terrible acts of crime could have been stopped. Crimes of passion or even premeditated murders could be stopped and many lives could be saved. While lives could be saved there are lines being crossed. In the end, in order for this protective government to be respected, the citizens must be allowed to put in their input about if they are in favor of the government invading their privacy to save lives.
