Zoe Solomon Minority Report 1-3

Blog Posting #1
The pre-cogs in the movie, The Minority Report, showcase the advances made in medical science.  The three of them are able to survive, stay healthy and get taken care of while living their lives in a pool.  The medical sciences are so advanced, that the twins and Agatha are able to thrive medically.  The government created technology that allows them to see what the pre-cogs see.  Everything that happens in their brains, is shown up on the screen above them.  Their technology keeps the pre-cogs alive in a pool.  The pool is filled with nutrients fed through to them.  They don't have to breath by themselves and their bodily functions are controlled and monitored.  The pre-cogs aren't allowed to interact with anyone or leave the pool.  Their excretions are through a tube and they never can move more than a few inches.  This is unethical because the government completely took control of their lives.  These humans are no longer viewed as living human creatures, but as things that give them what they need.  Agatha, Daschell, and Arthur's lives were all taken from them and put in the hands of the D.C. Government.  They are no longer free to do what they want and are constantly strung out on drugs so that they are unaware of what is happening around them.  The three of them are alive, but not living.

1) A totally protective government is a body that reigns over a community or nation and is able to completely and fully defend that community.  They are able to know everything that goes on and prevent anything that one would consider bad or harmful happen to the community.  In the movie, the Pre-Crime unit was able to prevent murders and rapes and other acts of violence from happening in the D.C. area and allowed the crime rate to drop more than 95%.  There had been no murders in the past 6 years after Pre-Crime had started up.
2) I think a totally protective government would be useful to our society.  Many crimes would be able to be prevented because the government would completely protect our society.  The government would be able to stop all the killings and rapes.  People would feel safe in their own society and that's all anyone ever wants when living in their homes.  If one isn't doing anything wrong, then they wouldn't have anything to worry about.  Sometimes people feel like they would be wrongly convicted, but in a totally protective government, one would always be safe.
3) Had this principal been used recently, the Boston bombing would never have happened.  People would have been protected at the marathon at that 21st mile and no one would have been killed or injured by that bomb.

My favorite scene in the movie is when John Anderton is running away from the Pre-Crime agency.  That's when you finally realize just how awesome he is.  He jumps from one car moving car to another, risking his life.  He could have fallen to his death, but instead he keeps jumping to another car.  He is able to defeat about five of his ex-collegues all on his own, even when they have weapons and he doesn't.  That is the kind of action that I like in movies.  When you're stressed that the character will fail, but he ends up just being totally badass and kicking everyone's butt.  The sick sticks and cars that drive themselves could be possible in the future, but our society would need to advance our technology a lot for that to happen.  I think that the cars could help prevent lots of crashes and would be very useful.  Police wouldn't have to waste their time on watching out for cars driving badly and could focus on more important issues.  The sick sticks are kind of gross, but they are an alternative to guns and violence.
