Sarah Bogan Minority Point Final

Minority Report
The movie Minority Report takes place in the future where technology and science are huge factors in life. The government uses pre-cogs to see the future and stop crimes before they happen.

Blog Posting #1: There are three people in the film that determine everyone's fate. Agatha, Daschell, and Arthur. They are pre-cogs and  can see the the future. The government uses them to see when and where a crime is about to happen and stop it from happening. The pre-cogs spend their lives lying in a pool sleeping and watching murders happen. It's unethical to treat the pre-cogs this way because this is not a healthy living situation and their quality of life under these circumstances is very low. Human beings would not be able to live like that in real life because they would go insane if all they could do was lie in a pool and watch murders happen. This aspect of the movie is unrealistic.

Blog Post #2: If the world had an infallible police state, it would mean that when the police stopped crimes and arrested people they were one hundred percent right and there was no chance of a mistake. This would be a good change in our world. If police were never wrong and could stop crimes, like the Pre-Crime unit did in the movie when they made arrests, the number of wrongly convicted criminals would plummet, and mass murders could be stopped. Hundreds of lives could be saved if we had ann infallible police state. Maybe if this was in place now the crime rates in Chicago would be extremely lower and neighborhoods and communities would be safer.

Blog Post #3: My favorite scene in the movie was when John Anderton's halo was removed and he revealed Lamar Burgess's secret to all of the people who respected him and were honoring him at his dinner party. It was the breaking point in the story that everything else in the plot led up to. It was the part where all of the strings were tied together and everything made sense. It was perfect the way John Anderton exposed Lamar Burgess. Nobody knew it was him doing it except Lamar, and John executed it perfectly. In the future I don't think it's realistic for one person to take down the entire plan of the government, and I don't think it should be possible for one person to do what John Anderton did because if they have the wrong reasons for what they're doing they could ruin many lives.

Nickolas Smith Minority Report Final

1.)In the movie minority there is series of new things in the year 2054 and even though there is a series of new things there still is al little problem in this year. I  this year they have technology that is new, they also have a new pre-crime division in washington D.C, and lastly they have sometime of science to get the murders before they happen. The science in this movie is actually the pre-cogs in this movie because they keep them in the pool for the rest of their lives and they use there minds to see the murder before it happens which keeps the pre-crime going.

2.)-Pre crime as a sign of power of infallible police state. This means that the police are perfect at what they do. They have to have the pre-cogs in order to get exact information about the murder or if they don't then pre-crime is not going to be promoted. Yes, an infallible police state should be apart of our world because of the fact there is so much crime and killings that the police are scared to come out and actually handle the situation like real police should. Had this principle been set the shooting of the situation with Endia Martin situation would have been avoided.

3.) The new technology in this movie is also based on NO PRIVACY at ALL!  When you go to the Mall there is a scanner in each store which tells you your name. This means that you have actually purchased something from that store. For example in the movie he gets his eye changed because he was a wanted man he doesn't want to get caught in places so that they find him and he gets arrested. In the 2054 privacy is not evan a word anymore.

Karl Cunningham

Philip K Dick made many short stories and he use science fiction to tell his stories. One of his short stories was called The Minority Report. Philip used science fiction as an outlet to break unfamiliar grounds. His work was based on experiments and questions on your own existence. His own emotional and psychological state plays a very important part in the tone of his work throughout the years. Philip used science fiction in his movie Minority Report. He gave the idea of how to stop crime before it happened called pre-crime. This is idea was something that would happen in the future where technology is more advanced. Well the thought of something like stoping crime being so advanced would be better for cities like Chicago because basically people die everyday and with this new system every person that lost love ones would have them back. This would effect us in a very positive way. Probably if that happened then the government would probably allow the purge every year.

The technology of how the cars were driving on the highway and how they were able to kind of switch how the car drove. In our society theres lots of crashes because people have more control over their cars. But in the new technology that would be brought from Minority Report the car would have more control over the road which would have a positive effect on us because crashes would only happen if there was a technical difficulty. Another thing that would be very helpful for the government is the eye scanner. That would be a positive and negative effect because people would want to know how to remove their eyes so they would be able to get away with illegal stuff without being busted. Many people would be embarrass because lots of people go on website that are inappropriate for kids that is under the age of eighteen. Some people have low self-esteem and basically all their personal information would be shown once they stepped foot in a store. On the plus side the government will be able to stop illegal immigration and probably would bring down the crime rate because theirs no way to escape with all these cameras scanning your eyes. I don't think this could ever happen in the future mainly because all this was possible because three human being were able to tell the future. Without that this will never happen.

If we had something like pre-crime it all depends on how the operation is operated to get my support. In the movie people was hold captive just so the crime rates could go down. If they volunteered then it would be a different story, but that wasn't the situation. I would support an idea like this only if its only using pre-crime without the extra things like the eye scanner and the halo's. This really would be a good idea for the future because a lot of people has been living with hurting memories in their head and some people are missing love ones right now. With this new technology crime will go down and it would help the world dramatically. When the United States has a war with a different country pre-crime will allow them to be able to know when they are planning attack against them. So yes it would be very important our economy right now. Pre- crime could be a future thing it would just have to change a couple things in the way they operate.

the movie Minority Report, the pre cogs are used to spot crime before it even happens. They were being used for that because there were so many people that were doing a lot of crimes. The pre cogs were actually a good thing because it decreased the number of crimes in the city. But the pre cogs also lived in a weird lifestyle. the pre cogs lived in a pool, they could never move out of place because they were half asleep  and they had to eat out of a tube, and the pre cogs didn't have any connections to the real world. In the medical  point of the way the pre-cogs were being treated, it was bad for them and there health because they weren't getting any exercise and they never moved around. i don't think that humans could really be able to function like Agatha, Daschell and Arthur because if they start to see crimes before it happened they might get PTSD and could possibly hurt their brain.

an infallible police states were police that always did something right. infallible means ''incapable of making mistakes or being wrong''. i don't think that this term should be part of our society because our society has many of problems and nobody its pure perfect. for example, people think that white people have a lot of money and they go to those good colleges, but the reality is that not all white people have all those things.

[blog posting #3]
my favorite part in the movie was when tom cruz got caught by the police and he used the sick stick on one of the police officers. i like that particular part because he took the sick stick and used it against the police. i think that this might come in the future because now the technology is upgraded. how do i know, they made a tupac hologram

In the movie Minority report, there are three individuals called pre-cogs. These Pre-cogs are the main source of pre-crime. The Pre-cogs known as the twins (Dash and Arthur) and Agatha were used for there enhanced abilities to stop murders before they happen.  Reducing crime by 90%, I think it's amazing for people like these to have visions about an event that didn't happen yet.

Define the term, Clarity which is used in the movie minority report. Clarity is a highly popular, highly addictive recreation drug with effects similar to heroin. Injection occurs in the form of a transparent gaseous drug administered using plastic inhalers. This is what John anderton uses to help him sleep and forget about the incident that happened with his son Sean 6 years ago.

My favorite scene in minority report was when they were investigating a murder that had not happen yet, where The color of two balls describe what type of murder it is. red ball for passion and a brown ball for predetermined. This scene is very unique and exclusive to me. this shows how much technology has changed and can be like this in the future.

Minority Report takes place in 2054 where Pre-Crime, a police department that can arrest murders before they actually happen. This information is provided by the Pre-Cogs. Pre-Crime Captain John Anderton sees an audit showing himself killing a man named Leo Crow in 36 hours. John safely escapes but has to find who set him up before being arrested.

Science used in Minority Report
1.   Science is a fast growing topic in our society. In the movie Minority Report it predicts how science will effect our lives in 2054. We learn new things everyday in science that will help us create labs and tests to help better our understanding of things. The more research we do the closer we are to be able to create important things, like cures or vaccines. While science is advancing this could impact our society in a more negative way. Our privacy could be at it's minimum. Shown in Minority Report, science and technology has made people have very little privacy.

Technology shown in Minority Report
2.   The technology in Minority Report seems pretty reasonable. Not everything may be seen as recent as 2054, but everything in the movie could be seen in the future at sometime. Sick Sticks, Guns, and the headband that makes people go into a coma are all possible weapons that could be used by police forces.  With technology advancing this fast we are able to imagine how different our world would be like in 2054. In Minority Report there is a scene that shows how the roads have changed. The way how the cars can drive up walls is a possible outcome but to be able to construct an entire new roadway system that has advanced technology to make the cars stay on the rode is not something we would be able to see in 2054. It would take much longer to let alone invent it and build it. Besides that, the predictions that Minority Report made of what technology would look like in 2054 seems very believable.

3.   If i was in the Supreme Court it would be a hard decision for me to choose if i want to support Pre-Crime. The system involved sacrificing 3 humans to save countless lives but there are many variables too, because the 3 Pre-Cogs are technically being kept hostage I would choose not to support this. If the system changed itself to be more reasonable then I could change my mind. For example the Pre-Cogs wouldn't be kept hostage but actually would come in as a worker like everyone else in Pre-Crime. If Pre-Crime had higher security and a better understanding of the Pre-Cogs then I would also be convinced. In the movie they almost never made it on time before a murder. The things they see by the Pre-Cogs are very blurry and they have to de-code where the murder is, when it is, and who it is. It almost seems very insufficient. The problem with privacy is a factor too. It shouldn't be a problem if they only see things about murders but realistically society would see it as some type of spying device and protest against it.

In the film Minority Report, the pre-cogs are used to detect a crime before it happens. They are used for this because there was a lot of crime being committed. And with these three pre-cogs they brought the crime rate down a great percentage. But as far as the pre-cogs personal lives? They didn't have one. They lived in a pool, were fed through tubes, and never left from the positions they were in which were layer out on their backs.  In the medical view point of how the pre-cogs were treated, it could've have been very bad for there health. Cause they weren't getting any exercise and they never moved around. They had no interaction with the real world. I think humans some day could function like the pre-cogs but I don't think it would be a good situation to a certain extent. Because they explained they saw these things when they were sleep, and that would just cause so much paranoia. It could happen though but i don't suggest it.

Infallible police state were nothing can possibly go wrong. Infallible means "Incapable of being wrong or making mistakes." I personally don't think this term should be apart of society because society does have flaws not everything 100% perfect. The flaws can be fixed but we shouldn't act like they never happen.
People think that New Trier High School is this amazing and there kids never do anything wrong but on the new I saw that the NT students trespassed on Loyola Acadamey's school grounds and spray painted everywhere. Thats a vivid example of how people like to sugar code things into thinking there society has NO flaws or mistakes when it actually does.

My favorite part of the movie is when he went through is changing process to get back into the Pre-Crime lab to get Agatha. Specifically when is got new eye balls and to a shot under his chin to rearrange is face. I just think that was a very good action part it was very interesting. I don't think that this is something that can occur in the future though because to be its just unrealistic. But Im not taking anything away from the scene it was a very eye catching scene and you can tell it was very thought through. I highly enjoyed it.

Pre Cogs are used to prevent crime in the film. Pre cogs have qualities to see the future and they see crimes before they happen. The Pre Cogs live in pools with other Pre cogs they are connected to a screen to display images in their heads. It is unethical to treat any human the way pre cogs were treated,  pre crime takes away their ability to be human and makes them machines. The Pre Cogs don't have a life of their own and controlled by the people who work in their facility. I don't believe humans will ever be able to function like Agatha, Daschell, and Arthur. It seems impossible for anyone to know the future before it presents itself as the present.

Define term… Protective Government. People were punished because they were going to commit a crime even if they haven't committed the crime, because pre crime is a sign of a totally protective government. A protective government should be apart of the world it prevents crimes without anyone getting hurt. Had this principle been in place many innocent people would still be alive today. The Pre Crime was highly effective it  decreased crime by a rate of 90%.

My favorite scene in the film is when John Anderton shot the man who the pre cogs predicted he would shoot. This scene was very unique because even when he had control of his fate he didn't have control of his fate. He was forced to shoot the man he always said he would shoot but in the end he learned he would be forced to shoot the man. No this isn't something that will ever present itself to the real world. But I would have to see how effective it would be in the real world to decide if it should be in thereal world.

In Minatory Report, the Pre-crime operation uses humans called "Pre-cogs". Pre-cogs can see into the future and determine violent crimes before they happen. When a Pre-cog predicts a crime the name of the victim and the criminal are printed on a color coded ball (i.e. red for crime of passion). The precime comity then sees the vision of the crime and goes to the crime scene to stop it before it happens. The pre-cogs are kept in a pool where they lay helplessly in a half-asleep half-awake state. The pre-cogs have no control over their actions and are forced to lay there and see the future. These pre-cogs can not live their life and some might consider it torture to be kept in the conditions that they are kept in. It is extremely unethical the way they are treated because these Pre-cogs are human beings with feelings and a mind with their own ideas. They have no life to live except to lay unaware of their surroundings and see painful visions of violet crime. In the real world, I don't know if humans will ever be able to function like Pre-cogs. There are certainly many myths of people seeing into the future but it doesn't seem realistic to me. But anything is possible.

In Minority Report the media endorses many of the features and positive outcomes of the Pre-crime system. They would show P.S.A. commercials of people effected by Pre-crime and how it saved their life, or the life of a loved one. The media had a huge say in what the public thought of Pre-crime. This can be an issue in society because the public isn't exposed to the negatives of Pre-crime. If the government controls the media they can control what the public thinks about a specific topic. I don't think that media endorsements of technology should exist if the certain technology is as big as Pre-crime is. Although, I think the public should be aware the Pre-crim because criminals could be scared to commit their crimes if they know that the will be caught.

My favorite scene in Minority Report was when after John Anderton has been running from the Pre-crime officers and is about to commit the murder that the Pre-cogs predicted. I liked this particular part because you are almost certain that the Pre-cogs were wrong and that the crime would not happen. But then there is a twist when Leo Crow pulled the trigger himself while John Anderton was holding the gun. The Pre-cogs did see the vision correctly but it wasn't Anderton's fault. I don't think that this is something that would happen in our future because it seems very unrealistic that people could ever see the future in the way the the Pre-cogs did.

In the movie Minority Report John Anderson (Tom Cruise) uses the technology of his time to catch potential murderers. The most important of these technologies are the Pre-Cogs, three humans who have the ability to see murders before they happen. The Pre-Crime unit stops murders, using the visions the Pre-Cogs produce. To facilitate visions the Pre-Cogs must be kept in a very secure environment. They live in a small pool of conducive liquid. They are feed and cleaned daily, they even have their teeth brushed. They are not fully conscious and can't form their own thoughts. Although they are taken care of, the Pre-Cog's can't even really be considered "alive" in this situation. They don't have the freedom that is promised to all americans, and it is inhuman to keep them in this environment. The three Pre-Cogs have an incredible ability, but realistically it is impossible for anyone to fully see the future. Strong intuition may resemble fortune telling, but is is actually just the subconscious, connecting past experiences.

A Totally Protective Government:
  1.  The American Government in Minority Report keeps it's citizens very safe. The Pre-Crime program has effectively stopped all murders in Washington D.C., and is being spread to the rest of the nation.
  2.  Partially, the all governments should protects their citizens, but the extremes that the US government goes to in Minority Report are just too far. It is far too easy to start only protecting one group, instead of the whole.
  3.  If the government was more protective we the Boston Bombings might not have happened, as the NSA or FBI would have stopped the bombers.

My favorite scene from the movie Minority Report is when John Anderson is jumping from car to car on the vertical highway to escape the police. The angles and camera work make the scene suspenseful and the animation looks fantastic. The tension rises as Anderson jumps from car to car until he reaches a balcony and smashes through a window. The technology to make cars that can drive themselves and drive vertically already exists, but it is not yet practical for use. The Bullet Train in japan uses magnetic rails to hover over its tracks and can move at incredible speeds. Cars like that are cool and could reduce congestion significantly, along with stopping almost all car accidents, but I think the future of transportation is public transportation. It reduces carbon emissions and is often faster that personal transport.
